this move…

It’s been five months since I officially moved to Silicon Valley, and the move was stressful. There is no way I could have done this with out the help and support of family and friends.

To begin, I have the best friend a person could ask for. The week the movers were supposed to come, my bestie volunteered to help me pack. Over three days, she helped me organize and pack up my life into boxes for the movers. I do not think I would have been able to do that on my own. I truly underestimated the amount of stuff I owned. When it was all said and done, I donated six or seven bags of clothes, a small box of blue rays, and a bin of frames and other miscellaneous stuff to Goodwill. I also threw away another five or six black trash bags worth of junk.

I also stayed with my mom for a week. The night before I was supposed to leave, a little storm named Elsa made its way up the east coast and foiled my travel plans. My 6am Friday flight was delayed to the point I would miss the flight from LAX to SJC. The best the airline could do was to get me to San Francisco close to 9pm on Friday. Obviously, that was a no go. So, I booked a Saturday flight out that left at a more reasonable time.

When my Friday travel plans were nixed, it put a wrench in the works of my car delivery. On Friday I got the call that my car would reach Santa Clara before I would, to say that stressed me out was an understatement. But, I am eternally grateful to the family friends we have out here in the Bay Area because they were able to sign for my car and pick me up from the airport.

I can’t forget my brother who volunteered to fly out here with two more of my suitcases (did I mention I flew out here with 3 pieces of luggage and a book bag?). Since he flies stand by, he had to constantly watch what the flights were doing, and how full they were.

Looking back on my move, it was stressful but not as bad as it could have been. It’s hard to believe it’s been 5 months already!
