    alaska cruisin’…canada eh?

Yet another set of photos from my cruise last year. This set is from day six when we went up into Canada to the Klondike Suspension bridge. This (the featured image) is also one of the only photos with me in it from my camera (the other lovely ladies in the featured image are my mom, my aunt, and one of my mom’s best friends). I am quite proud of myself. I am absolutely terrified of heights, so crossing that bridge was not high on my list of things I’d want to do. But I did it. I may have held on tightly to the sides and repeated the mantra,…

    out for a stroll

I don’t do outdoors. But every now and then I get the urge to go for a stroll and ‘commune’ with nature. Usually these little adventures are spurred by my desire to take my camera out and capture some photos. This past Saturday I went out to one of the many nature parks in the area and took a walk on one of the trails. In being out in nature, I remember why I don’t do outdoors. There were so many bugs flying around and the mosquitos ate me up. It was not ideal. But when I got home and looked at the photos I got, I was satisfied. I…

    red velvet cake

I love to bake. Trying out a new recipe and nailing it the first time around gets me excited. I feel accomplished. Then there's the feeling I get when I pull out an old recipe, one I've made hundreds of times, and execute it successfully. That feeling, I can't really put it into words.

    The Hurley’s Engagement

Today is one of my best friend’s birthday! She turns thirty (just like I did a month ago). In honor of her birthday, I’m doing a throwback to the engagement photos I took for her four years ago!   The photos below are some of my favorite from the photo shoot we did at San Lee park. I really should suggest we go back there to get some family photos with her, her husband, and their daughter who’s almost a year and a half!

    30 days of 30…the introvert

I turned thirty a month ago. And so far I think it’s gone well. It’s weird. I don’t feel 30, but here we are. I felt like it’s an appropriate time to post something. I want to try and do this whole blogging thing more often. But I feel like I don’t really have anything to say. That’s why most of my posts are photos or recipes. For my thirtieth birthday, I threw myself a party. I invited all of my friends and we ate and laughed. I’m an introvert, so we won’t be doing that for another 12 years. I enjoyed being surrounded by the people I love and…

    alaska cruisin’…Tracy Arm Fjord

I want to get better at this posting thing, and apparently it’s been almost two months since my last post. Here’s a new one for you. I went on a cruise last July, and I still haven’t finished posting all of the photos. Part of the reason for that is that I’m forgetful. There was one day of our journey where we spent most of the day on the ship cruising through the Tracy Arm Fjord. It was magnificent, serene, and cold. The coldest days of our vacation was when we were cruising through the fjord. What is a fjord? A fjord is a long narrow inlet of the sea…

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new. It’s been even longer since I’ve written anything new. I hope to post more things as the weeks go by, like maybe finally posting all of my favorite photos from my cruise to Alaska. But for now, I have a new poem I wrote this weekend. Enjoy!

    into alaska…ketchikan

this heart of mine was made to travel this world Ketchikan, Alaska. This was the first stop of our Alaskan Cruise. It’s a small city where .70 of every dollar earned is from tourism. Apparently, it’s also the ‘Salmon Capitol of the World’. We took a duck boat tour and learned a bit of the history of ‘Alaska’s first city’. What’s a duck boat? This is a duck boat. It is a vehicle that can travel on land and drive right into the water. The whole thing was quite surreal but fun at the same time. While in the water, we saw so many eagles. And they posed perfectly. It’s…

    a celebration of sorts…

For me, ‘educator’ is the highest title that exists. -Eliyahu Goldratt This Alaskan cruise was put together as a celebration. One of the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful souls I know retired from the education profession. She wanted to go on a cruise to Alaska with her friends and family to celebrate. On our first full day of cruising, our group got together and surprised her with a slideshow, kind words, and love. The photos below are some moments I captured from that event.

    vacation…part one

if given the chance to travel, always take it, Last October I put a deposit down on a cruise to Alaska, and this trip was worth every penny. The last time I went on a proper vacation–not to see family, but to see the world–was October 2013 when I went to Hawaii. So this July cruise was long overdue. The photos below are my favorites from the first full day of my vacation. We spent the day on a bus tour of Seattle before we boarded our ship, the Emerald Princess. I might have fallen in love with Seattle just a little bit. I can’t wait to go back one…
