Last year I purchased and completed my first paint by number. Since then I’ve done several more. I found that I always had paint left over. I am a bit of a pack rat; I feel terrible throwing stuff away that still has use left. So, as I completed each painting, acrylic paint pots began to pile up. There was so much potential left.
My first experiment using the leftover paint was to decorate some cupcake boxes using tape. Well, I only had duck tape at the time and it didn’t turn out quite like I wanted. The tape was too strong and ripped the box. But, I did like the way it looked. It reminded me of when I used to create circles in Microsoft Paint when I was a kid. Instead of circles, I’ve moved on to lines, only because it’s easy to do with tape.
A couple of months passed before I decided to try my hand at using up the rest of my paint. I recently finished a set of four paint by numbers, so it was time to make another attempt. I ordered canvas and masking tape. The results of my second attempt was much more successful.
Since then, I’ve become a bit obsessed. The set of photos below are from my latest project. I took three canvases and taped them together so I could create a set. I think it turned out pretty well. I guess it’s art. This isn’t something I’ll keep. I actually painted it for one of my best friends. Purple is her favorite color.
