    pound cake…in a jar

I’m a fan of pound cake. It’s not my favorite cake, but I do enjoy it. I like it for the memories it stirs up. Growing up, I spent most of my summers up in a city north of Chicago called Waukegan. I stayed in a house less than a mile from Lake Michigan. It was the house where my mom grew up and where my grandparents still lived. The summer Sundays of my childhood was marked by Sunday School, Church, a hearty dinner prepared by my grandma, followed by pound cake. After my grandmother passed, the family spent a week cleaning out the house. I have a love of…

    saturday walks in the fall

This cold has been too much and it just makes me think back to recent warmer days. I love the fall. Not as much as spring, but it’s up there. Walking outside in just a cozy sweater, jeans, and boots is heaven. However, the best thing about fall is the colors. I’m not an outdoorsy person, but randomly I’ll get the urge to go on an outdoor excursion. I felt that urge a couple of months ago, so I decided to follow it’s lead. I wound up in a park not too far from my mom’s house. These photos are the result. I miss fall, and I’m looking forward to…

    sunday walks-durham 2016

I can’t remember when these photos were taken. I can tell you it was a Sunday. I had decided to commune with nature, which is weird for me. Every so often, I get the urge to grab my camera and go on a bit of an adventure outdoors. These photos are a result of one such excursion on a Sunday afternoon in Durham. These are actually from 2016. I hope to get out there and explore more, but only when the temperature is consistently above freezing all day for more than a week. I don’t do the cold.

    a better me…

I decided 2018 is going to be the year of a better me both physically and mentally. A big part of that is adding exercise into my routine. I know, I know. Everyone says that is their resolution each year. But I don’t want this to be just a ‘resolution’. This is something that has to happen. In 2016 I bought a FitBit. I jumped on the bandwagon; I wanted to challenge my friends. And I used it for a while. It was good. I ventured into the cold; I took walks outside. Then one day I realized my FitBit was nice, but I wanted to be able to look at…

    here we go again…

Over a year ago I accidentally let my domain name expire and lost everything. So I had to start from scratch. I recreated my site, but I never did anything with it. This is me trying again. A lot and then a little has happened since then. I moved back in with my mom (saving and searching for a house), I’ve taken up knitting, I’ve traveled, and I’ve been in a wedding (#2 for me).  I’ll try to revisit some of the adventures of 2017,  and I’m making an effort to blog more in 2018. My topics, per usual, will be food and photography, with some knitting, traveling and life…
